Let's Talk Meditation
The idea that we're going to slow down our minds and turn loose of the ever-running stream of "I should" and "oooh, shiny!" in our brains is sometimes intimidating.
Meditation doesn't have to be hours of sitting in lotus position (or even "criss-cross applesauce" as my kids call it) and staring blankly into space. There are walking meditations, guided meditations, breathing meditations...lots and lots of options.
One of our favorite here is the "calm down jar" or "glitter bottle"...which I call a meditation timer. They're all over pinterest these days, as a sensory processing tool, but one thing they're great at is helping us still the mind. Shake them up, and wait for the glitter to settle back out. While you're watching it settle, your mind follows suit. Great for kids or adults - and you know that this way you don't have to worry about the clock, because when it's done, it's done.
